Xmas party

Hola!

I've not updated the blog for a while! I was quite busy the last couple of weeks. Ben came 2 weekends, we went shopping! All the Xmas presents are now done! I have discovered the suroundings of Bristol: Cheddar, Street, Weston SuperMare, Clevedon...
Last weekend we went to Kuehne+Nagel Xmas party, that was an amazing night! Lots of fun, all drunk... Sunday and even Monday were not so good... big hangover.
I am going home for Christmas! I will be there from the 21st of December until the 2nd of January! I can't wait!
This week, I will go to Gainsborough (a city at the North of England) for 2 days, working on a project for Kuehne+Nagel. Something new, that's great!

Below are the pix of the Xmas party + some pix of my colleagues with really funny glasses! It was the present one of them got from the "Secret Santa"! What is the secret Santa? Everybody of our team had to do a present for someone. Of course, it had to be kept secret. I got a bottle of red wine! mmmm...

Bath

Last Saturday, Ben and Me went to Bath with Andrew! Andrew, remember, my housemate in London. He studied in Bath and was really happy to come back for a sight tour! It was a nice day! Bath is lovely, a lovely city in the countryside. The university is amazing, check out the pictures below! We had a nice lunch in the best pub of Bath, and a nice break in "le restaurant chocolat" Miam-Miam! We even tried a glass of Spa Water pumped directly from the roman bath. It has a really distinctive flavour which makes me think of iron. The water is hot. Some people had their baths in this water few centuries ago... Beurk! And I tried it!

Apart from that, 2 really important news this week: My sister Nelsie turned 10 on Wedesday and my brother Fabi 20 on Friday! Big-up to you, I miss you... xxxlovexxx

The team is complete! To celebrate this new young and dynamic team, we went bowling last Wednesday! It was really nice, and for a first time, I was not so ridiculous (I think) ;)

Portishead - where I live

Portishead’s history dates back to the Roman times. Its name derives from the ‘port at the head of the river’. The town was built on the mouth of a small tributary; indeed the High Street once met the water at the top of the river. Iron rings, evidence of where the old fishing boats used to moor can still be seen today on the street’s stone walls. The town retains a slightly old-fashioned atmosphere where local traders and shopkeepers know the many faces of their customers.

The dominant architecture is early Victorian with many buildings maintaining their original features. Around 1836 at the height of the iron and steel era, a deep-water dock was built to facilitate the large ships that brought valuable cargoes from across the globe and exported local products overseas. For over 50 years a major coal-fed power station operated alongside the dock. Ships carrying coal were commonplace in Portishead Docks. Industrial activities ceased in the dock with the closure of the Power Station in 1980.

The dock has however been well preserved and is now the centre of a new and exciting marina development attracting interest from all over the country. The new marina will provide over 400 floating berths and approximately 100 dry berths for a range of sailing and leisure craft. I live in this brand new marina complex. The current population of Portishead is approximately 18,000. Due to the new house-building programme in the area, a further 8,000 people are expected to settle in the area over the next few years making Portishead one of the largest towns in North Somerset.

News from Portishead

I am still alive! I will try to sum-up the past 2 weeks.
Well, we lost THE game, everybody knows, nothing to add... Ben was there, we watched it French flags painted on our cheeks! After this shutout, we just chilled out on the Sunday, went for a walk along the marina. That is really nice to be so close to the sea!

Last weekend, we went to Weston-super-Mare! I wanted to see the donkeys on the beach, but no luck... There was the "Weston Beach Race" – the largest off road motorcycle event in the UK. Ben was happy! And I found stickers of Patrick (best friend of Sponge Bob) in the Aquarium! They are now on my window!

Yesterday night, I met my colleagues in the centre of Bristol. That was a great night out going from pub to pub... ;)

At work, everything is fine, I really enjoy myself. We have a great team: 2 German girls, 1 Bristish and me! Next week, 3 more guys are joining our team: a Brazilian, a Polish and a Bristish. Let's see how it goes...

I will support France as never before!!!!!

Hi everybody, especially French people!
Just this little message to support the French rugby team! I will see the game on Saturday with English people! Ben will be there, at least we will be 2 people to support the best team!
For the occasion, i bought a wonderful face painting kit! I will paint the French flag on my cheeks on Saturday and will display them all day long in the centre of Bristol (I will probably be dead by the end of the day!). And i plan to paint my face on Friday as well as my colleagues will wear their English shirt! Here is a picture of what i will look like.

First week

I've been there already for one week. Time goes quickly. After a boring day in Birmingham, i began my new job on Tuesday. And, until now, it's been really interesting. It's just the beginning, i am learning, but it promises to be a real good job!
In the album below, you'll see pictures of my trip by ferry with Ben. A nightmare, i could not sleep, i was sick...
+ pictures of the flat and the area, with my car parked in front of the flat. Yes, for those who do not know, i came with my car, and am now driving on the wrong side of the road! ;)

Brand new flat!

Today, i have moved to my new home in Portishead, 11km from where i will work. I am in a nice flat into a Marina complex (comprendre, près d'un port de plaisance). See pictures. Only 5 mins by walk and i can see the sea... The flat is all furnished and brand new. Pictures coming soon...

Tomorrow, i have Kuehne+Nagel Induction in Birmingham. Basically, it is a course to understand values and philosophy of the company: How amazing! ;)

First news from Bristol

I arrived alive yesterday morning in Bristol after a night of nightmare on the ferry to Portsmouth! Driving on the wrong side of the road is a bit hard, but it will do, no choice. Yesterday and today, i visited 4 accomodations among which one is quite nice and the girl (police officer, ouh la la!) is really nice. Two more viewings tomorrow morning will be followed by lunchtime in an Indian food restaurant (the company pays, hihi, viva Kuehne+Nagel) in the centre of Bristol with 2 of my future colleagues and Ben (who leaves on Sunday morning).

More news soon...
